Troja: Prague's Treasure
If time permits do not forget to visit one of Prague's hidden treasures: Troja, located north of the center. Troja houses the beautiful Troja Castle, the Botanical Gardens, the Zoo, the Canine training arena and the Canoe training site. Every year national and international Canoeing competitions bring curious tourists to this area. There are also some very nice eateries
It is also where many breathtaking villas and consulates are located. Troja is considered a chique neighborhood great for walks along the Vltava River and getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city center to a calm and airy place.
This neighborhood runs along the Vltava River and once beautiful villas were flooded during the August 2002 floods. Some of the villas still have the flood marks to show how high the water reached.
Troja and the center are divided by the Vltava river. On the other side there is the beautiful Stromovka Park and the famous Riding stables.
Getting there
Troja is not far from the center. It is accessible by metro, tram or bus. The fastest way to get there is on the red line, go to metro station Nadrazi Holesovice. From there, you will take the exit going towards the Zoo, via the escalators. If you happen to take the exit leading to the stairs, you will end up at the train station!
The bus stops are located on the left hand side. Bus 112 is the ZOO bus which will get you to the destination. The stop is "Zoo" or you can get off at the "Kovárna" stop, in front of a nice Kavárna (Café), where they serve the best Palačinky (Czech Crepes) and Medovník (a famous cake) along with a latte or cappucino. Or make this your stop before heading back. The castle and zoo is just meters away.
