Ruzyne International Airport
This is the main airport into Prague, 12 miles west of the city center. It has been going through great expansion and today there are two terminals: North terminal and South terminal, both international. The North terminal has a second level with a lounge and restrooms. The inside emanates Prague’s style of fine glass, crystal and jewelry shops. There are many eateries and on the second floor is a buffet style cafeteria where you can get a quick bite to eat.
Signs in English will lead you to where you need to be, considering the airport is not as complicated as maybe Charles De Gaulle or Heathrow. The arrival terminal and departure terminal are not far from one another. Passport control area is small enough so you are sure to find it and the agents are fast to get you through to the luggage terminal so you can retrieve your belongings and be on your way to hit this majestically bestowed city.
Services
Once out those sliding doors and in the arrival terminal there are information, accommodation and transportation booths. Bank exchanges are also found in several places and we recommend that you exchange at least $50.00 to start. There are also public phone booths that take a phone card you can buy at the little Kiosk on the left corner of the arrival hall.
At the information booth, located near the arrival terminal and departure terminal, agents can direct you to car/shuttle companies; accommodations or you can go straight to these booths located near the arrival sliding doors. The cab companies are conveniently located outside the arrival terminal, but make sure you take the AAA cab (dial by phone 14014), known as offering the fairest rates. If you know where you are headed, they will take you there and most cab drivers can get by in English. If you have an address and can write it down for the driver it will be faster. Also make sure you negotiate or confirm the amount before you get in the cab, they usually have meters so check to see these are running properly.
For those more adventurous, there is the 119 bus that will take you to the nearest metro station: Dejvicka, which is on the green line. You will need a 20kc ticket that will allow you to change transport systems and is good for 60 minutes on a weekday. You can purchase these tickets at the Kiosk mentioned above or at the bus stop outside the airport, from the ticket dispensing machines. By the way, the instructions are also included in English! It is important that you validate the ticket, once on the bus, by sliding the end in the little yellow box on the poles- which will stamp the time and date. IF this is not done and an inspector happens to bless you with his/her presence, you will have to pay a fine even though you have a ticket! The point is to validate the tickets…
There are also plenty of shuttle buses that will drive you to your destination. The information booth can help you make reservations or you can catch them near the outsourced services area.
